About the event
The Amazing Okanagan Valley Geocaching Race is based on The Amazing Race television show created by CBS Television in the United States and a geocaching version played for several years in London, Ontario.
The Amazing Race is an American reality competition show in which teams race around the world requiring teams to deduce clues, navigate themselves in foreign areas, interact with locals, perform physical and mental challenges, and travel by multiple transportation options on a limited budget provided by the show. Teams are progressively eliminated while the first team to arrive at the end of the final leg wins the grand prize of US$1 million. The original version of the Amazing Race has been running since September 5, 2001.
How the geocaching race works
Teams of 2-6 participants will race around the area, from Kelowna, to West Kelowna to Lake Country to complete a series of tasks at six selected locations to receive an envelope containing the coordinates of one of six hidden, unpublished geocaches.
Each task is different at each location. Instructions will be provided to explain the required task. One member of each team must perform the designated task at each location before they are presented with the envelope containing the coordinates of the cache.
Each geocache contains a letter clue which they must record
After all six geocaches have been found, signed and clue letter recorded teams race back to the starting location where their clues are checked.
Who wins?
Everyone wins! The first team to arrive with the correct codes wins bragging rights. Everyone else who participates is also a winner for having taken part.
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded at 6pm by random draw to those present after the race.
